Packers and Movers Charges: 1, 2 and 3 BHK Shifting Cost

"How much will my shift cost?" is the question every family asks, and the answer online is usually "it depends". It does - but not endlessly. This guide explains what actually drives packers and movers charges in India, gives typical prices for 1 BHK, 2 BHK and 3 BHK homes from WheelSniffer's fair-price rate card, and shows how to avoid overpaying or getting cheated.

What is included in a packers and movers price?

A full-service move normally covers:

• Packing material: cartons, bubble wrap, stretch film, corrugated sheets, tape.
• Packing labour: wrapping furniture and appliances, packing kitchen items and clothes into cartons.
• Loading and unloading at both ends.
• Transport in a truck sized for your household.
• Basic dismantling and reassembly of beds and simple furniture (confirm this - some movers charge extra).

Unpacking cartons at the new home, AC installation, wall mounting a TV, car transport and transit insurance are often not included unless you ask.

Typical charges by home size and distance

These are WheelSniffer's fair-price estimates for an all-in move (packing, labour, truck and tolls), excluding GST. Treat them as a reference: actual bids depend on how much you own, the floors, the season and the mover.

How distance changes the price

Packing, labour and loading cost the same whether you move 5 km or 500 km. Only the transport part grows with distance. That is why the price does not double when the distance doubles. WheelSniffer's estimate multiplies the local price by a factor that grows slowly with distance, and then adds highway tolls:

What makes a move cost more?

Volume, not just "BHK"

Two 2 BHK homes can be very different. A family with a large sofa set, two wardrobes, a dining table and 60 cartons needs a bigger truck and more labour than a couple with minimal furniture. Share an honest item list - or photos - with the movers.

Floors and access

Carrying goods down four floors of stairs takes far more time than using a lift. Narrow lanes where the truck cannot reach the gate also add labour.

Special items

Pianos, large aquariums, marble tops, gym equipment, antique furniture and large idols need extra care and are usually charged separately.

Vehicle transport

Moving a car or bike to another city is priced separately, often on a car carrier or in the same truck with proper securing.

Storage and waiting

If your new home is not ready, warehousing is charged per day or month. If the truck has to wait at either end, a waiting charge may apply.

Season and dates

Month-end, weekends and the school-holiday season (April to June) are the busiest periods. Flexible dates help you get a better price.

A note on GST

GST is charged on top of the moving price. The rate depends on how the mover is registered and how the service is billed (transport and packing can be taxed differently), so ask whether a quote is "inclusive" or "plus GST" and ask for a proper GST invoice. A mover who can give you a valid GST invoice is also easier to verify - you can check any GSTIN on the government GST portal.

How to avoid fake packers and movers

Fake movers copy the names and logos of well-known companies, quote a very low price, take an advance and then either disappear or hold your goods for a much higher payment. Protect yourself:

• Be suspicious of prices far below the market. If one quote is half of all the others, ask why.
• Do not pay a large advance. A small booking amount is normal; paying most of the price before loading is not.
• Verify the business: check the GSTIN, a physical address and the truck's registration number before moving day.
• Get everything in writing: price, what is included, delivery date, and the list of items and cartons.
• Keep valuables with you and photograph expensive items before packing.
